Theory/Philosopher

A philosopher whose theory resonates with me the most would be Erik Erickson's psychosocial theory. Since it focuses on the development of humans sense of identity. He explains how people develop or fail to develop abilities and beliefs about themselves. This eventually leads to them becoming productive and satisfied members of society. This is stated through the various 8 stages that people go through in life. These stages are associated with a time of life and a general age span. The reason as to why it stands out to me the most is because it gives me a better understanding of what stage in life my students may be in. For example, in stage 4 entitled industry vs. inferiority it explains how children around the age group of 6 to 12 need to experience positive experiences to master that stage. If the students do not, they will begin to negatively compare themselves to others. and feel interior. Which will lead to different types of problems and developmental delays that can continue to their adolescents stage.

An Inspiring Teacher

The most inspiring teacher I have had is named Mrs. Rubin-Garcia. She was my 7th grade science teacher and my Cheer coach in all of high school. She would always arrive to school with a huge smile on her face. She would always share her love of teaching to everyone around her. During lunch when I had no one to hang out with she always had her door open. Inside her classroom was full of students who loved her just like me. After school, when I was not able to go home and eat before cheer practice because I lived in a different town than my high school, she was always there offering me what she could.

Her positive attitude and passion for helping others has inspired me to become that person for so many other students. I hope to be the person my students go for whenever they are in need. She has shaped me into believing that as educators we must always put our students first. The reason as to why we become teachers is to provide all the resources necessary for our students to succeed. I will always strive to be an amazing teach just like her.
