My Philosophy
What do you believe?
I believe that all of the information I learned throughout my education will help me positively impact my future classroom. For example, one of the first assignments was about creating a set of rules and positives expectations to implement into my class. These rules and expectations will definitely be a part of my future classroom and will be posted in place where the students can easily view them. Although, I will create them with my students to ensure they have a sense to input and responsibility to commit to them. Which was one of the many great recommendations that I received from this class.

How will you structure lessons based on the Common Core Standards and/or NGSS?
I will be able to structure lessons based on the Common Core State Standards by reviewing the standards based on the future grade I will teach. Being familiar with the different standards from each subject will help me create lessons that correlate with the subject standard. In this classroom I have created a lesson that aligned with the Common Core State Standard for Language Arts. I did this by first focusing on a topic for my lesson which was based on poems, rhyme, and alliteration. Then I began to search the CCSS ELA for a standard that related to this subject. The more I study the standards the easier I will be able to relate the standards to my future lessons.

What types of lessons will you use?
I will use lessons that include differentiation and assessment strategies for all students. My lessons will use manipulatives, tired activities, sentence frames, graphic organizers, and auditory/ visual representations. For example, in a math lesson I will provide students with counters and buildable cubes to solve various additions and subtraction problems. The assessment strategy that will relate with this lesson would be students participating in think, pair, share with their partner. Since I want my students to feel comfortable when learning new material. Small discussions throughout the lesson may answer questions that they can encounter.

How will you respond to and provide encouragement to students (motivation)?
I will respond to and provide encouragement to students by verbally praising them for their efforts. As students show successful progress and accomplishments in their work I will provide them with various positive interactions. For example, students who complete a level on their online math or language arts application will receive a personalized certificate. As well as create various classroom management activities that will motivate them in the classroom. Since I plan to have my students seated in groups, they will receive group points for showing positive classroom behavior. Which will hopefully encourage students to remain on tasks throughout the day.

What are the environmental and educational goals for your classroom? How will you achieve these goals?
One of the environmental goals that I have for my classroom include creating a safe and positive environment for all students inside and outside the classroom. I will achieve this by when we begin the school year we will share things about each other to ensure everyone feels safe. We will be able to bond over relatable things that will create great relationships. An educational goal would be to celebrate students academic growth throughout the school year. Any progress will be embraced and celebrated to ensure all students feel my support towards their education. I will achieve this my having weekly awards on students who have shown a certain amount of positive progress over the week. Those students will be able to choose an item from the treasure box and a certificate.
